Ummm... Not exactly what you want to see...
11 players arrested this year. Another suspended by the NCAA for selling his jersey. And lots of criticism from the fans and media about getting the program under control and cutting out the thuggery. Then, you get the defensive coodinator, Todd Grantham, give the opposing kicker the choke sign with a few choice words as the kicker prepares to try a game-winner in OT. Oy. Look, I understand it is a close game against a bitter rival and it is hit-em-hard football, and not gentlemen's day of croquet, but that kind of stuff won't exactly help Georgia on the PR front. (HT: Senator Blutarsky, HT: Boys of Old Florida).
UPDATE:
Apparently they've been trying to get a response from Grantham about what he was doing. He hasn't made a comment yet. On second thought, you never know. This could be some gesture to the defenders regarding a scheme, stunt or playcall. Even if it is special teams, it could be a signal to the defenders that they were going to call a timeout in order to ice the kicker. It is a stretch, but we really don't know. So, I will take back some of what I said earlier until we get an explanation from Grantham.

I thought you wanted more swagger in the UGA program?
ReplyDeleteHaha. I like aggression and confidence. But I don't like "swagger." More Nebraska, less Miami.
